James Dive (b.1979) is a Sydney-based artist known for large-scale public installations and interventions that reshape how people experience the world around them.
His work has been the subject of sustained critical acclaim — described as the highlight of Art Basel Miami by The Guardian, and selected for the cover of Wild Art, Phaidon's landmark publication celebrating artists who challenge the boundaries of the established art world. His practice has been featured in Wallpaper*, Monocle, Art Forum, Art & Australia Magazine, and Creative Review among others.
His work includes the iconic melted ice cream van. The raining house that drew and drenched thousands in both Sydney and Denmark. The outdoor photo studio where 6,435 strangers agreed to be formally photographed together over seventeen days. Dive’s works have been created and exhibited across Australia, the United States, Denmark, France and beyond.
In 2024, Dive founded Studio Dive — a creative practice working with brands, government and cultural institutions on large-scale commissions in the public realm: permanent installations, cultural interventions and experiences.
